Server Review for 7-14-10
Alright ladies and gents, looks like there isn’t going to be a Soupcast this week. But being the nice guy that I am, I thought I’d whip up a good ol’ fashioned Server Review.. Soup Style!
Lets get right down to this, I’ll try my best to review the maps to the best of my ability. If you want, you could even do some user reviews in the comments.. for those two maps I’m not gonna review. Maybe.. If you wanted to…

First up is Mahalo MPD by Mis7aPapz D3A7H.
I’m going to go a little light on this one because A. its a Beta. and B. its a Challenge map.
This is a fun little map, a little tight but only a little bit of bad spawning in the early rounds. You see what I’m hinting at? Its a little map, I needed to say it three times ha ha. The map is aesthetically pleasing and its really cool to see what he did with the shanty platforms and boxes. The layout is nice, but the issues grow as the player count grows. I wish there was something that could be done about that. BUT its a great starter map, or good for a small amount of people.

Next up Mind the gap by Fauch
We played CTD on this small and tight map. The first thing that hits you when you spawn is how white the map is, next up it gives off a incredibly sterile feeling. But the map has a ton of height variation, if only in key areas. I like more open maps, where you are given multiple choices and attack styles. But even then this map does not disappoint. It has tons of options, paths that were carefully crafted to funnel you in certain directions. A few times in the early minutes of the match I got lost, a little confused.. but I was having fun. The maps a little symmetrical, a little on the safe side. But is a ton of fun with the amount of players we had.

Next is Blaze by Gravedigger5454
Blaze is a medium.. layered map set in a temple dessert setting. Yeah, that sounds a little weird, but a map with a Meat railing is going to be a little weird. The brush use on this map is inventive, I didn’t really get a good look at the map during the match. I mainly stayed at our base, or was dead. ha ha. It played pretty fast, even with the amount of players we had. The layout is well suited to CTD, and Gdigger even says its good on uprising and other modes. I think he even did that trick with the Diamond signs, but I didn’t get a chance to see it. I liked the map, what little I saw of it. From what I do remember.. well I already said. Sorry man, but I do reccomend this map!

Next up is the large map of the night Riverine by Anemeros
Yeah this map was big, it almost felt like it stretched from one end of the entire mapmaking space to the other. The map is simple, a River set in the Jungle. Nothing to exciting in the realm of brush use, everything is used in a expected way.. not that this makes it a bad map. In fact its quite the opposite, Riverine is a extremely solid map. It was a lot of fun, a little tedious at times. But still fun. The map excels at the small details, a lot of time went into the environment. It just feels like a piece of campaign, in looks and in size. At one point our team realized our diamond was gone and we scrambled looking for any hint of smoke, this went on for what seemed like 5-10 minutes. Then off in the distance I saw the bugger practically on the doorstep of their base. The %$#@^! took the diamond around the outside edge of the map, through the wilderness. Probably right on the outskirts of the map boundary, we never had a chance to see the smoke. That was a good match, on a solid map. Anemeros knows what he’s doing when it comes to gameplay.

Next is Ruins Raiders by Fauch
I guess this is a cool map, too bad I spent both of the matches on it in a pit. Its too bad the pit is in the map, because its a game breaker. I mean the other team reset the match because they thought their diamond glitched and was stuck in a rock. Little did they know me and sure were having a tea party in our glitch spot. Fauch, go over this map with a fine toothed comb. I suggest you look down by the low rope bridge near the back of the map.

Finally Zephyr by Gravedigger5454
This is another map by Gravy that features interesting brush use. Its a symmetrical map with floating boxes, birds and greenhouses. Surprisingly it has smooth gameplay and its kinda hard to get lost, even in all of the confusion. I ran around for most of the match using only a pistol, or trying and failing to use a machete. But it was fun, a simple CTD layout and good spawn placement. The map featured a lot of height and a lot of variation in terms of the paths you could take. The visuals were cool at first but looked kinda.. meh after awhile. I like the map, its solid gameplay wise. But after the initial “what is up with these brushes?!” the map feels a little meh-y.
