Alright guys sorry bout the lateness on this one, the heat around here is awful and now its humid too. I feel like I’m melting, and my procrastination has taken a hold.. bleh

So Anyways, lets get down to business. I’ll try and keep it quick, but knowing me.. Well you know me. ha ha

—-

-

This week let’s focus on Objective modes. CTD to be exact.
The MMC for this month focuses on maps made with limited objects, but as a added bonus? They must feature CTD. No cop outs, no easy ways out. ha ha
- – -
And then I got to thinking.. I feel the best way to make a great CTD map is to first understand how CTD works. And what’s the best way to do that? Play a $%&# ton of Capture the Diamond. From the small to the Large CTD can be fun on almost any map, but if the basics aren’t there then it won’t be any fun at all.

With that thinking in mind, lets get down the the submissions! All you need to do to submit a map is copy and paste the form below. Lets bring out our best CTD maps for this server, a few DM and TDM maps will be fine to break up all of the Diamond matches. But lets stick to CTD. Kthnx

EDIT: Alright guys, I updated the title of this post. Just a quick date change and everything is all set. Plus you get to read our fine discussions.. ha ha. Submissions are still open, so post away on your favorite CTD maps!

I feel I have a few solid maps for CTD. So I’m going to start the ball rolling here with a few of my own creations.

Scavenger IV I feel has a good Asymmetrical layout that provides a need for different tactics for each team. One team has a height advantage, but if they get too comfortable up on their perch then they get wrecked on the flank. The other team has a spread out base suited for Close Quartered Combat, but if they rest to heavily on their defense then the match can quickly turn out of their favor.

Of The Sun is again a asymmetrical map, which I feel can make some of the best and most interesting matches of CTD. The layout is in general a simple circle, with lots of small height differences. Small side paths and bunches of cover give a open but safe feeling, while the dense jungle floor provides nice cover for the stealthy player. We’ve had some fun matches on this one in the past, so lets give it another go!

I’m not sure how many maps your supposed to be able to submit here. Looks like your mostly just putting up your own maps you’d like to play.

For CTD, I’d like to play this one:
    Author: Gravedigger5454
    Map Name: Swampland
    Preferred Mode: CTD
    Map Size: Medium
It is a symmetrical map that supports all modes but is made especially for CTD. It can be kinda hard to take the diamonds at first, because you first need to learn the map and find all of the many ways to get to the diamonds. I made it a while ago so it’s not the best looking map ever, but it’s still good for CTD. There is water between the bases, which is the swamp. You can walk in the water, or crouch to swim and hide in the water, or jump onto one of the six swamp boats to drive around the map.

If you do another of my maps, I’d like to play this one:
    Author: Gravedigger5454
    Map Name: Blaze
    Preferred Mode: TDM or CTD
    Map Size Large-Medium
I tried to set this one to seem very different depending on which of the four modes you play through the spawn placement and block off a tunnel during CTD, and partially blocking it in uprising. This could work very well for CTD, but I usually like the team deathmatch a little more. This is a symmetrical map as well, although the two side look pretty different in parts.

Since the post above me has two maps, it looks like that is the limit to submit, but if it is not, this one can be pretty fun CTD with pretty small parties of 6-10 players. It is my oldest map and so I’ve already had the chance to play it couple times, and wouldn’t care if we didn’t play it. I assume it is not likely unless only a few maps are submitted. I went ahead and posted it just in case because I would like to play it since I find this game is the most fun when you’re playing maps you’ve created.

Sorry about double posting here. I was just thinking about the server here. You can’t change the advanced options for the game once you start out. I’m not sure how you’ve done these in the past, but I’d like to give my own opinion about how I think they should be set. Of course, you do not have to listen to it, and I’ll still come if you don’t. The hardcore mode I think you should turn on. It makes it so you don’t have the red name appear when you look at enemies and makes guns do more damage. It basically takes out all the cheap annoying stuff from the multiplayer here and makes it fun. When I host games, I think it is also very important to make sure voting is turned off. With voting turned off, you do not have people extending the match time on one map for ever. You have more competitive games because there is a real time limit, rather than playing until someone puts up a vote to end the match. I also do not like the voting thing getting in the way of aiming. People may sometimes vote to skip a map while I am changing the rotation, which messes up the new rotation and delays the start of the match. Also, with this sort of thing here, I think there are additional problems with the voting, someone may get upset if they only submit one map and it get ended right near the start of the match, so they don’t actually get to play it. Super long extended games could prevent some maps from being played. I think each map should be alloted a fair 15 minutes of play, especially good maps could be played for a second round, possibly with new teams or a different mode (but probably not in consecutive matches). If there is a game where everyone for whatever reason does think it is necessary to end a game they should do this by requesting that the host cancels the match (which does the same thing without a vote). Also, to be fair I think you shouldn’t play two maps from the same person in a row, and should play one map from each person who submits a map before going back to another map from someone you already played a map from.

Ha ha that’s fine. I have a few rules I use for hosting, that work out well for me. I’ve also been hosting games on Far Cry for about 4 years, from Far Cry Instincts to FC2. I have a pretty good grasp on what I’m doing.
    - — -
    Hardcore mode on.
    - — -
Voting is on, it can get a little crazy but it works for our server. We have a few sets of rules in place that all of the regulars know.
    - — -
We don’t keep a map list/rotation setup. I go by what feels natural, if someone votes to skip a map. Well they get ‘fed to the wolves’ or banned. Its simple and it works.
    - — -
We generally play 15 minute rounds. Sometimes we’ll play a map twice but we rarely do.
    - — -
Also we’ll play a map by one person, then one by someone else. We Rarely play two maps by one author in a row.

I think voting is more of a positive thing than a negative thing in the FCS world. Voting to skip map will not be a problem because the server is not on a map list. Voting to extend match time generally is not successfully voted unless it’s what the majority of both teams want, in which case if it’s in the best interest of most of the server opposed to a couple people it’s probably better to keep most of them happy. Voting to BAN is a great feature and just makes the servers more… Fun. You’ll see what happens when you join the server and see someone votes to skip the map. Anyway, last but not least, voting to end the match when it has just nearly begun. This occurs every now and then during the server, but this happens because we WANT it to happen. Whether it’s because of HORRIBLE frame rate, poor spawning thus leading to spawn camping, some major glitch in a map that would make the gameplay extremely suffer and cause one or both teams to not have a good time in the slightest – why would you want to make a team suffer through that without being able to voice, “this should be ended.” It’s the map makers fault, not the players, really.

We don’t necessarily play the same players map in a row. Gov tends to host up the maps in whatever order he feels they should be hosted – and usually people that submit two maps, the first map is played, and the second map is usually played after everyone else’s first map is played or if the game mode it’s submitted for is a good segway to play it after some other map.

And yes the server is hosted on hardcore mode, I agree it wouldn’t be fun otherwise lol

Anyway, try to refrain from submitting more than two maps, odds are anymore will probably not get played depending on how many overall submissions there are from other players.

  • Gravedigger5454

I don’t want to start a debate/arguement about the voting thing, so this will be my final post about it, since there is nothing else to say. I would just like to make a comment about what was said in that the voting can be good by allowing people to vote to ban annoying players or end matches that are not fun. The host has the power to ban anyone or end any match they choose to. I prefer to have the host have this power. Usually voting will lead to the proper result, but it is easy to accidently vote the wrong way (you can’t change your votes) and the voting thing gets in the way of gameplay. Even if they are all rejected, many votes throughout a match can make it not fun. The voting results usually work out for the best, but I find it is better if you do it by simply telling the host you think they should end the match, and if there is a general agreement of that, it is ended.
And as far as the maps, in the future I’ll just put two, one of my maps and I’d like to play, and one of someone elses that I’ve found.

  • The Govener

The other problem with turning voting off is in the event that the teams are uneven. Its a giant pain in FC2 to try and shuffle players around.
    - –
In the same vein when you play uprising.. well a lot of players are awful as captain. They either have no mic in or are in a party, or they just don’t understand the mode. Voting to change team captain is a must.

Submitting two maps is usually fine, Gravedigger5454 but if there are a lot of submissions your second may not get played. The way the matches are hosted works well and the general rule is if someone doesn’t like it they wont be staying.

Gravedigger5454, if there aren’t many submissions this week your third map may get played, so I think submitting three’s ok, too.

I thought that there might have been a server for this last Thursday, but there wasn’t. I started my own capture the diamond game. It went really well, we played for about 4 hours with a full party on many different maps from different authors that people enjoyed.
    -
Since I have three submissions, I’d like to unsubmit my Swampland map, and change it so there’s just the Blaze and Zephyr ones to be played Wednesday.

-Also, I may not be there right at the 8 start time, but I should still be able to play not long after

  • UnearthlyWatch

Posting this a day before this week match and I have developed a bad cold, although we missed out last week and I really want to play, mucus all over the mic is not a good look, or sound.

  • The Govener

That sucks man, hope you feel better soon!

On another note, guess you all don’t care too much for CTD? ha ha. We’ll we still have a solid server.. and we always get some last minute submissions.. aside from when I say we will. >_>
