MMC#3 Limited Grab Bag

This one is tough, its going to be really tough actually. I hope however that this challenge will produce some truly unique, and creative maps!

The theme for this challenge is inspired by something the PS3 community did over at FCmaps.net last year, in the end they only got one submission. Hopefully us 360 guys are up for the Challenge, and boy is it a challenge.

Here’s the basic’s, you can only use the objects listed below. Yeah… only those objects, that’s where the limited comes in. The Grab Bag comes in from how random most of the objects are. I expect a lot of creativity will be poured into this one. And as a added bonus, all of the maps must support CTD

Alright here’s the list of objects.
- Shanty Platform
- Platform 1 (under structures)
- Woodland S 02
- Granary 01 (under Dogon)
- Bones Skull Gazelle
- Barrel Metal 03
- Crate 02
- Table 06
- Wood Log 02 (under Detail objects)
- Car Wreck

Yeah, kinda eclectic.. isn’t it? ha ha. Also as a added bonus, you must you at least 10 of each object.

Along with the list above you may use: Anything in the multiplayer category (spawns, etc), Occlusion blocks, Ammo spawns, Explosives, The turrets without sandbags,Vehicle: the buggy, Terrain, texture, collections, anything outside of “Items”

I’ve also published a map to the servers that contains all of the objects for the map, its published under my tag (FarCrySoup)

    I just found this site and was looking at this. It sounds like a cool map making challenge you got here. I’m not sure how you enter. Looks like this is for anybody that finds it. I’d like to try it. Got a couple of questions though:
    -It says you can place trees with the collection system, can you also manually place trees around the map, or can you only use collections ones?
    -Do the required 10 of each object need to be within the playable map zone? How much interlocked away can they be before they no longer count as one of the objects?
    -Also it says “table 06″ I may be wrong, but I only remember four tables that are just called “table”

    I looked at your template map and saw there is a table 6. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like I can edit my last comment. Your template has a “car wreck” and a “Log 02″ in it, are these also included in this?

    No you cannot manually place tree’s. Only through the collection system.

    I would prefer if they were in the playable zone and visible.
    And I would say use your judgement on the interlocking. But definitely try to use the objects in a creative way.

    Yeah, I made a mistake last night when doing up this post. Car wreck and log o2 are in the challenge, sorry for the confusion.

    Ok, this is a challenge, usually I can apply the given parameters to a scene I have imagined, this really is improvisation.

    Gravedigger5454, submit your map for the challenge before the end of this month by Live message to the tag: FarCrySoup with the name of your map (once on the Ubisoft server) and the name it’s published under.

    I’ve got a map that’s starting to look pretty well with just these different objects. The only one I’m having trouble using all ten with is the wrecked car, but I’ll get all of them. It’ll be a while before I finish this one though. I think it’s a pretty fun challenge to do. Because of the limited selection of objects there’s only so many aesthetic things you can I do, so I fear there may be some maps that look very similar to one and other.

    I have few questions about the description for this. I noticed there is a lot of italics and bolds and underlines all through it. I do not remember these from I first read it, but now they make it hard to read, I thought it was well written without them. Also, it says you can use everything in the multiplayer category. It would seem obvious that you need to be able to place spawns, diamonds, etc. My question is about the signs category within this. You should be able to designate where ammo is and which side your one and all, and this was likely the expected use of these when the description was first written. The signs and sign posts in this category, and to some extent the graffiti and posters,can be used to build small sections of a map or add to detail to them. I think you should be allowed to use these for this challenge. My map does not need them, but it would allow me to add detail to it, as well a little additional cover and walls to be added during CTD. The signs could be looked at as kinda a loop hole in the rules here if we looked back later and saw my map was the only one using them this way. Before I add them to my map I just want to make sure everyone is aware of them and agrees it’s okay to use them. Also, everyone being aware of them could inspire some people to use them in a real cool way in their map.

    Hi Gravedigger5454, in last weeks match the host did talk about the use of signs tactically used in different game modes and I’m guessing as he didn’t exclude their use in the challenge then their in.
    I downloaded his template and yeah I am concerned that there’s a limited number of object combinations. I don’t want to do the obvious, but I may do. Even with the limited brush set I think it’s still possible to decide on a general environment and make them fit, so that increases the potential variety I think.

    BTW I like the way my map is coming along, same with what surf is doing. You really need to look at the object and then not use it as it is.. yeah that Kinda makes sense.

    I’ve been trying to use the objects in unique ways to build together my map. It’s been working quite well and it looks cool so far. I’m having a lot of fun with this, and wouldn’t have used only these objects otherwise. It gives a cool kinda theme that makes it fit together well. The only thing that I was saying could turn out to be a downside of it is everyone is using the same grab bag of objects, so the maps could look the same. However, I’ve since thought about many very cool maps that could be made with these objects and do not look at all like the one I’m making. I do not know what anyone else is making or what there’s will look like, but this could turn out really well overall in the end. It may work even better if in a future challenge you somehow randomly distributed different grab bags of items to people. You’d need to be able to make sure they’re all possible and at the same time not things that would make a generic map either, the group you got here is an example of I think a very good selection.

    Believe it or not, I think there will be MUCH diversity in this contest. After seeing gov’s map and comparing it with mine, we both have EXTREMELY different approaches to this contest. I just hope everyone else tries to think outside of the box as well.

    Everyone keep trying to put out a map for this! Can’t wait to see everyone’s work and take on things.
