Well Hello there everybody, that was a fun match last week. Great maps, even greater people! Thanks to everyone who showed up and made the match what it was!

Now this week, we are going to continue our trend (hopefully) of  hosting the best maps, with the best damn community there is! This is going to be a shorter post then usual, but hey everyone needs a break from writing right? ;D

You all should know the submission guidelines by now, but hey if you don’t well don’t sweat it. Just read below and Please for the love of Skittles Copy and Paste the formy thing. Otherwise we will not host your maps. or map.

so really all you need to do (repeating myself here..) is copy and paste What’s easier then that? Also You can add a description, cause those are totally bad-ass.

Both of these maps have a similar theme: Islands in the middle of the ocean. How original! (that’s a joke) Ocean Oasis is a remake of my favourite produced map from FarCry: Instincts on the Xbox. Ring of Fire is an original map in which two bases are placed on opposite sides of a ring-shaped island. Lots of boat-related hijinx are guaranteed to ensue!

Plus, I could probably finish touching up my changes to Desolate Town (that terribly-balanced map from last week). Trust me, its a lot better balanced now. Plus, I would really appreciate any suggestions for a new name for it!

This map is a real brass knuckle bucket of bullets. We would like to invite people to speak up about thier experience on the UBI forums. We are determined to get the Final Version out the door by the weeks end. Every new insight allows us to make the arsenal of this map that much more potent.

    Thank you Gov.

Remember that map that didn’t work last week? I fixed it! Issues involving entire teams getting trapped in their own base are almost guaranteed to not occur!

Re-worked (hence new) waterways (from zig-zag to straight) should make boating much easier. Tip: Don’t fall in the volcano.

Since uprising on this map last week was over faster than a toilet flush, maybe CTD will last as long as a bullride (8 sec.)

  • Hilbillee

This is AWESOME! Sixteen maps submitted! Is it possible that due to burnout from MW2, people are coming back home. Sixteen maps! Is it possible for 20 submitted maps next week? What about this week? Will it get to 1 submission per person. Let’s hope so.

  • kernalEugEnE

well, i reworked my first map…..but the birds are still flying through the ground….

Okay folks, submissions are Closed! Anything submitted after this point will not be counted.

  • o0Fauch0oo

I disliked most of the maps yesterday.
of course, it had to lag like hell on my map :-/
is that why people voted to end the game?

  • o0Fauch0oo

well, at least it seems you don’t judge if maps are worthy of your server or not, you just host them and let people decide.
infortunately this time, some too big maps, some with very little cover, and some not easy enough to navigate.

  • Surfdog Jr

You should tell the author that in a more constructive manner. We all have big egos here on Farcry, remember to keep it constructive ;D

On another note, I am very surprised at the amount of maps submitted this week. If only we had more time and more room in our server lol

  • Tommydey

There was one specific map I didn’t like. I don’t remember what it was called though…

  • Tommydey

Are you guys doing this next week too? I’ll play but I’ll be about 30 minutes late.

  • o0Fauch0oo

it was a “constructive” way to say :

-don’t make maps so big that we can’t find opponents.

-put enough cover so that people don’t die as soon as they spawn

-make your maps easy to navigate so that we don’t get angry because we get stuck a lot

  • kernalEugEnE

i found that, well, moslov is great to play with, but, well, shrink the maps.ALOT.
other than that an Falcon’s superlag map, yeah, it was a great server
so yeah,Fauch, use some occlusion blocks. it was a great map, it just had too much stuff too close together

  • o0Fauch0oo

it was server lag. my map uses occlusion blocks, and the performances are decent I think.

  • The Govener

If it was server lag, then the rest of the matches would of also of been laggy right? But of course it chose to just be a bit laggish when it came to your map..

OCC. blocks are not a god object that fix everything the second you place them down. Some maps just have a problem, be it from clustering objects or to many players. I think your map was a mix of both, to many players for the map and the overlapping objects was a bit much for the game to handle with or without OCC. Blocks. Its a solid layout, but overall I would rather play something bigger next time.. LOL

  • o0Fauch0oo

sure, many of the maps we played had little chance to have bad perfs. I will check if it is worse than I thought. how many were we in the map?

and how do you know it didn’t come from a specific player? on timesplitters online, it started lagging like hell as soon as some specific players joined.

  • kernalEugEnE

its possible that it was a person with a killerly bad connection, but really gov? i thought if you plopped an occlusion block in the middle of a map, it fixed the lag, bad layouts, unbelieveably random massive holes, sideways flying birds, ingrown toenails, leaky radiators….i guess i was off….

  • o0Fauch0oo

in the editor, it says my map has decent perfs. and a few weeks ago, we played fishy business which is far more laggy, and no one cast a vote to end the match.

there was also a similar problem with warrinton castle. the match was quite laggy, but when I looked in the editor, it seemed that it didn’t come from the map.

  • o0Fauch0oo

also, have you noticed that we played maps so big that you couldn’t find an opponent? how do you know that those matches weren’t lagging like hell also? in my map there was a lot of action so it was much more noticeable.

  • kernalEugEnE

your map was really good, it was just all in one small spot, i’m pretty sure we had a full server, and it’s possible someone had a shitty connection…..

  • Surfdog Jr

As Gov said, occ. blocks don’t fix everything. They just HELP prevent the lag, many factors like 16 players on a small map could be a major contributor to the lag. And I wasn’t saying you weren’t being constructive, I meant to keep it constructive. No need to get defensive and attack other’s maps. You clearly voiced that you disliked the slow pace of it, so leave it at that.

  • The Govener

Hey Fauch, no need to go on the defensive here. Your map was noticeably laggy and players voted to end it.. Well I voted to end it after numerous complaints about the lag. This is a website devoted to hosting your maps and then reviewing them, if your map played badly nobody really cares, we are here to help. But honestly don’t drag other maps into this. From my perspective it seems like you’re able to dish out the criticism but in the end you’re not able to take it. Which frankly is a little immature. And in the end goes against what this site is meant for.

  • o0Fauch0oo

maybe I sound defensive, but I’m trying to be constructive.
the point of my last post wasn’t to bash those maps, but to say that until you try to kill an opponent, it’s pretty hard to determine if there is lag or no.

well, ok, maybe I shouldn’t have put those maps in example

when playing my map, I could shoot 50 M249 bullets in an opponent and not hit him at all. also, explosions of grenades were very delayed. and that is server lag

map lag would be drops in the framerate.

  • The Govener

Alright, there’s no debating with you. You have an answer for fuckin everything. THE MAP WAS LAGGING. Get that through your thick skull. We never said it was a bad map, frankly we don’t give a shit. This site is devoted to helping mapmakers fix their maps, and to just host the damn things. Your map had MASSIVE Framerate issues from the first 5 seconds into the match, maybe it was server lag, maybe it was map lag. Who gives a shit, and really the fact that this has dragged on for so long is from one person, and one person alone. And simply I’m at the end of my fuse right now, maybe I’ll start Judging the maps that make it into the server next week.

  • o0Fauch0oo

well yes, it’s a useless debate.
